Nakshatra Tara Balas

Taras are used to assess the favorability of a particular Nakshatra for initiating an activity. They are derived by counting from the native's Janma Nakshatra to the Nakshatra being transited by the Moon (or sometimes other planets) on the day of the activity. The count is then divided by 9, and the remainder determines the Tara.

Taras are grouped into auspicious and inauspicious categories:

These are positional relationships from your natal nakshatra (Moon’s constellation). The count is forward in the nakshatra list (AshwiniRevati).

Example of Mine Janma Nakshatra is Moola. Moola is the 19th Nakshatra in the sequence of 27.

  1. Janma Nakshatra (1st):

    • For You (Moola): If the Moon transits Moola Nakshatra, it falls under the Janma Tara. It's crucial that the Moon's transit Nakshatra should NOT be in a bad constellation with respect to the natal Moon's constellation. This means avoiding the 3rd, 5th, 7th, 12th, 16th, 18th, 22nd, 23rd, and 25th Taras for critical activities. The most problematic ones often cited are the 3rd (Vipata), 5th (Pratyari), and 7th (Vadha/Naidhana) Taras, and particularly the 22nd (Vainaasika).

By analyzing the specific Tara active on a given day, an astrologer can determine the general favorability for various undertakings, tailoring the auspicious time to the individual's birth chart.
