Quantifying Planetary Strength in D1 Chart through KPRA Method

In classical Vedic astrology, planetary strength has long been described through qualitative measures—dignity, house placement, aspect, and yoga formation. But what if we could quantify this strength with mathematical clarity while still honoring the soul of Jyotish?

Koundinya Planetary Rupas Analytics (KPRA) is a modern scoring framework that evaluates the net potency of each planet in the D1 natal chart using a comprehensive set of metrics:

Six Rules to calculate Strength of Planets in D1 Horoscope :-

Strength is measured in Rupas represented by 'R'.

 1) Planetary Dignitaries:

   a) Planet in Exaltation - 60 R.

   b) Planet in Own Sign - 50 R.

   c) Planet in Friendly Sign - 40 R.

  d) Planet in Neutral - 30 R.

  e) Planet in Enemy Sign - 20 R.

   f) Planet in Debilitation point - 10 R.

2) If following Planets in Retrograde (exclude Rahu & Ketu), must add:

Outer Planets:- Mars , Jupiter and Saturn - 20 R.

Inner Planets:- Mercury and Venus - 10 R.

3) If any of Planets gets Combust within 10° from Sun except Rahu and Ketu, value should be deducted by (-) 25 R.

4) Planetary Aspects:-

   a) Planet in conjunction or aspected by Benefics (whether one or many) should multiply by 1.5.

   b) Planet in conjunction with or aspected by Malefics (whether be one or many) should be multiplied with 0.75.

  c) If Planet in House or Sign gets mixed Aspects of Benefic and Malefic or No aspects, then multiply with 1.

5) Bhavas / House Position of Planets:

   a) The Planet placed in Kendra (1,4,7,10) houses should multiply by 1.3.

b)The Planet posited in Panapharas (2,5,8,11) houses should multiply by 1.2.

   c) The Planet sitting in Apoklimas (3,6,9,12) houses should be multiplied by 1.

6) Functional Placement of Planets:

   a) If Kendra's (1,4,7,10) posited planet is Natural Benefic, it should get an extra (+) 22 R.

   b) If Natural Malefic is posited in 3,6,11 & 12 Houses, it gets extra (+) 32 Rupas.

*Natural Benefics are Jupiter, Venus, Mercury, Moon and Ketu.

*Natural Malefics are Sun, Mars, Saturn and Rahu.

*Jupiter, Sun, Mars and Moon are Friends to each other.

*While Venus, Saturn, Rahu and Mercury are Friends with each other.

*Jupiter and Saturn are neutral to each other in their Zodiac Signs.

Note: I am taking here Rahu and Ketu as Planets even though Shadowy figures.

I considered Ketu has Benefic Planet here.

One should also know the Exaltation and Debilitation Signs of each Planet.

Formula to Apply:

KPRA Individual Planet Rupas = (Dr x Hm (±) RC x AC) + Fp.

Where as
      Dr = Dignitary Rupas;  Hm = House Modifier; RC = Retrograde / Combust;
AC = Aspects / Conjunction and Fp = Functional Placements.
