Leo Tolstoy (September 9, 1828 – November 20, 1910), born Lev Nikolayevich Tolstoy, was a Russian novelist, short story writer, philosopher, and moral thinker, widely regarded as one of the greatest authors of all time.
Born into an aristocratic family in Yasnaya Polyana, Tula Province, he is best known for epic novels War and Peace (1869) and Anna Karenina (1878), which explore human experience, history, and morality. Later in life, he embraced Christian anarchism, nonviolence, and asceticism, influencing figures like Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr.
