Edgar Allan Poe (January 19, 1809 – October 7, 1849) was an American writer, poet, editor, and literary critic, considered the inventor of the modern detective fiction genre and a master of Gothic horror and macabre poetry. His works include "The Raven," "The Tell-Tale Heart," "The Fall of the House of Usher," and "The Murders in the Rue Morgue."
