ATMAKARAKA

Among 7 planets, the planet which has attained the highest number of degrees in Birth-chart becomes the Atmakaraka.

Atmakaraka and the sign occupied by him in the Navamsa play an important part in Jaimini’s system.

The Sign occupied by Atmakaraka in Navamsa is called Karakamsa Lagna.

Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra gave an 8th karaka - Pitrukaraka; however, some only uses the redacted version of only 7 karakas (removing Pitrukaraka altogether). In Jaimini Astrology these karakas are identified from the descending order of minutes.

Arudha Lagna

Arudha lagna is obtained by counting as many signs from the sign occupied by its lord as he is away from lagna.

E.g. If Lord of Vrischika (Scorpio) lagna i.e Mars is in Aquarius (4^th house), then the 4^th from it , nothing but Vrushabam (Taurus) is Arudha lagna.

Similarly, if the lord of a sign is in the seventh from it, that very sign becomes its Arudha.
